Our President was Lyndon B. Johnson, the Vietnam War was going on with protests in the US in New York, California and Washington DC. 1967 was alco the year of the Apollo 1 disaster, the Six Day war, between the Israel and the neighboring states of Egypt Jordan, and Syria not forgetting the Race Riots, the Summer of Love, and others.
