Chris Charlesworth
Chris Charlesworth, a distinguished British music journalist and author, had an extensive career that spanned from 1983 to 2016 as the managing editor of Omnibus Press. Notably, he made notable contributions to the music industry, including his work with The Who. He served as an executive producer and also worked as David Bowie’s publicist at RCA Records from 1979 to 1981.
Chris began his journalism career at the Craven Herald & Pioneer in his hometown of Skipton. He later ventured into music writing for the Bradford Telegraph and subsequently wrote for Melody Maker from 1970 to 1977. During his time at Melody Maker, he held positions as the News Editor and US Editor, based in New York City.
Renowned for his interviews, Chris had the opportunity to engage with influential musicians such as John Lennon, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Rod Stewart & The Faces, The Byrds, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, The Beach Boys, Eric Clapton, CSN&Y, The Band, Paul Simon, Alice Cooper, Traffic, Free, Santana, Deep Purple, Yes, Frank Zappa, The Bee Gees, and many others.
Apart from his contributions to Melody Maker, Chris has also written for numerous other magazines in the United States and the United Kingdom. He has authored books on various rock artists, including Cat Stevens, David Bowie, The Who (including a book on Tommy), Elton John, “Twenty Five Albums that Rocked the World,” “Rock Stars at Home,” and more. Furthermore, he has co-produced The Who’s 4-CD boxed set titled “30 Years of Maximum R&B.”
