My latest radio podcast, aired on Thursday, August 29th, 2024, was titled ‘Postcards From Liverpool: Beatles Moments and Memories.‘
It was another Beatles-themed episode where we played music and explored the life, music, and culture of The Beatles, spanning from 1962 to 1970 and extending into their solo years.
We featured not only classic Beatles tracks but also highlighted other artists connected to The Beatles, including:
- Peter and Gordon
- Laurence Juber
- Gerry and the Pacemakers
- Jackie Lomax
- The Monkees
- Denny Laine
- Badfinger
- Billy J. Kramer
- Engelbert Humperdinck
- and more.
We delved into The Beatles’ early years, discussing key milestones like The Quarrymen, The Cavern Club, and their Decca Audition.
These moments were crucial in shaping The Beatles’ identity and trajectory.
The Quarrymen, formed by John Lennon in 1956, eventually evolved into The Beatles as Paul McCartney and George Harrison joined.
The Cavern Club in Liverpool became their home base, where they built a devoted local following and caught the attention of manager Brian Epstein, who helped propel them to fame.
The Decca Audition, held on January 1, 1962, was a pivotal moment when The Beatles were famously rejected by Decca Records—a decision often cited as one of the biggest mistakes in music history. Although the rejection was a setback, it led them to sign with EMI and producer George Martin, marking the beginning of their global success.
