The latest episode of my podcast on Beatles and 60s Music, which aired on Monday, September 30th, 2024, delved into the profound impact of the Beatles and the various sounds from the 1960s, including British Invasion, pop rock, and psychedelic rock. We focused on the legacy of Apple Records, the label founded by the Beatles in 1968, which was not just a venture for their own music but also a platform that launched the careers of artists like Badfinger, Mary Hopkin, Jackie Lomax, James Taylor, and Billy Preston.
During this episode, we discussed how Apple Records played a pivotal role in the musical revolution of the 1960s. Additionally, we explored the genre of psychedelic rock, known for its experimental sounds, extended compositions, and an emphasis on artistic expression. This genre, which emerged during the mid-1960s among British and American musicians, reflects a countercultural desire to expand the sensory experiences of music. Bands like Pink Floyd and The Beatles used innovative techniques such as tape loops, feedback, and varied electronic effects to push the boundaries of conventional rock music, creating immersive, mind-bending sounds.
We were also thrilled to have Nigel Pearce as our guest, who discussed his book, Inside No. 3 on Apple Records, providing further insights into the Beatles and the various artists associated with Apple Records.
Tune in for an engaging look at the Beatles’ profound impact on the music of the 60s and the intriguing story of Apple Records. Don’t miss this enriching journey through one of the most influential decades in music history!”

Nigel Pearce
We’re excited to welcome back special guest Nigel Pearce, a lifelong Beatles fan and collector specializing in the Apple Records era. Nigel is the author of The Inside No. 3 series, which offers a new angle on The Beatles through his extensive collection of records, memorabilia, and artifacts accumulated over the past 50+ years. His collection includes every official record release from No. 3 Savile Row for 45 rpm singles and all album releases. This impressive archive features not only The Beatles and their solo projects but also non-Beatles artists associated with Apple Records.
In addition to his work as an author and collector, Nigel is a radio presenter and broadcaster, serving three stations across the UK, Australia, and the US. His deep knowledge and passion for The Beatles make him a unique guest who brings invaluable insights into the band’s history and legacy.
As Nigel often says, “Collecting isn’t just about owning pieces of history; it’s about keeping the story alive for future generations.” We look forward to hearing his fascinating stories and learning more about his incredible collection.
