This Thursday, September 25th, 2025, we’re setting the dial to 1970, fifty-five years on, to relive a turning point when 60s ideals splashed into a new decade of sound and style. 🎶

Featuring: A whirlwind tour of what surrounded the music: marquee films, breakout TV moments, shifting fashion, and cultural milestones that colored the soundscape of 1970.

We’ll connect the dots between what you heard on the radio and what you saw on the screen, and why these songs still feel like the closing track of one era and the opening riff of the next.

Expect era-defining tracks and deep cuts from Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, The Guess Who, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Badfinger, Chicago, Three Dog Night, The Jackson 5, The Carpenters, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Neil Diamond, James Taylor, and more.

We’ll trace shimmering harmonies, Laurel Canyon acoustic glow, and radio-ready hooks that still hit like a first listen.

We’ll also rewind through the headlines, pop-culture moments, films and TV that framed the music, from theater marquees to living-room sets, and the world stage with President Richard Nixon in the White House.

It’s a mixtape of memory and melody from a single, seismic year.

🕰️ Tune in for a front-row walk through 1970 — part time capsule, part celebration, all heart.

📅 Mark your calendars: Thursday, September 25th, 2025 — cue the vinyl and join us live.

The latest episode of my podcast aired on Thursday, October 10th, 2024, delved into Rock Music Memories.

This episode was a nostalgic journey through the rich tapestry of great music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, featuring tracks from the Beatles, the British Invasion, folk rock, and the California Sound, including various artists from Laurel Canyon.

I also explored genres like bubblegum pop and soft rock, showcasing a diverse mix of iconic tunes that shaped the soundtracks of these groundbreaking decades.

My guest, Stephen Michael Schwartz, brought incredible insights and stories to the show. He shared his diverse musical influences, discussing everything from the Beatles and bubblegum pop to folk and the California Sound from Laurel Canyon.

He delved into his vibrant music career, including his debut album released in 1974 by RCA, and other songs he has written for audiences of all ages. His contributions to children’s music and songs referencing the Beatles and other iconic artists were particularly fascinating. We also explored his memorable experiences with Parachute Express.

Did you know?

Bubblegum pop is a genre of pop music with an upbeat sound, catchy melodies, and a focus on fun, often simplistic themes aimed primarily at teenagers.

The term was coined in the late 1960s by music producers who were creating a genre designed to be disposable, catchy, and accessible, much like bubblegum itself—meant to be enjoyed briefly and not taken too seriously.

Notable acts associated with this genre include The Archies, whose single “Sugar, Sugar” is a quintessential example, as well as bands like The Ohio Express and The 1910 Fruitgum Company.

Despite being seen as superficial by some, it played a crucial role in the development of pop music by paving the way for more sophisticated pop genres and influencing the sound of future pop artists.

Don’t miss this enriching episode! Tune in to the recording below to relive the unforgettable melodies and rhythms that continue to inspire generations of music lovers, and celebrate the timeless music that continues to resonate across generations.
