Bubblegum pop is a genre of pop music with an upbeat sound, catchy melodies, and a focus on fun, often simplistic themes aimed primarily at teenagers.

The term was coined in the late 1960s by music producers who were creating a genre designed to be disposable, catchy, and accessible, much like bubblegum itself—meant to be enjoyed briefly and not taken too seriously.

Notable acts associated with this genre include The Archies, whose single “Sugar, Sugar” is a quintessential example, as well as bands like The Ohio Express and The 1910 Fruitgum Company.

Despite being seen as superficial by some, it played a crucial role in the development of pop music by paving the way for more sophisticated pop genres and influencing the sound of future pop artists.
