🎙️ Show Topic: The 60th Anniversary of 1966 – A Year That Changed Everything

This Friday, January 9th, 2026, we mark the 60th anniversary of 1966, a year of upheaval, style, and unforgettable music.

Lyndon B. Johnson was President as the Vietnam War escalated past 250,000 U.S. troops, protests grew at home, and the Civil Rights Movement pressed forward with courage and resolve.

Across the Atlantic, the “Swinging Sixties” reached full bloom. Bold patterns, miniskirts, and Carnaby Street set the look of the moment. Indira Gandhi became India’s first female Prime Minister. Families gathered around a new Milton Bradley party hit called Twister.

On TV, pop culture turned electric: Batman, Mission: Impossible, Star Trek, The Monkees, Family Affair, The Rat Patrol, That Girl, and The Green Hornet. At the movies, audiences lined up for A Man for All Seasons, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Grand Prix, and The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming.

And the soundtrack of the year still rings out: The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Monkees, The Mamas & The Papas, The Byrds, Paul Revere & The Raiders, The Supremes, The Four Tops, The Young Rascals, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Lou Christie, Nancy Sinatra, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Tommy James & The Shondells, The Troggs, Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels, The Lovin’ Spoonful, and more.

We’ll revisit the hits and the deep cuts that made 1966 a hinge in music history.

Special Feature: 📺📽️ Culture Snapshot – 1966 on TV & Film: How prime-time heroes, new sci-fi frontiers, and big-screen drama mirrored a year of invention and unrest, and how the songs on the radio told the story in real time.

🕰️ Tune in for the headlines, the fashions, and the records that defined a year of change.

📅 Mark your calendars: Friday, January 9th, 2026—drop the needle and step back into 1966.

🎙️ Show Topic: Two Years that Set the Stage: 1960 & 1961

This Thursday, November 6th, 2025, we’re time-traveling to the dawn of a new decade – 1960 and 1961 – where America stood at the crossroads of tradition and transformation. 🎶

On the world stage and at home: the 1960 election, rising Cold War tensions with the Soviet Union and Cuba, and the courageous steps of the Civil Rights Movement – sit-ins and Freedom Riders pressing the promise of equality into everyday life.

In January 1961, President John F. Kennedy was sworn in after Dwight D. Eisenhower, challenging the nation with, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”

In sports, the underdog Pittsburgh Pirates stunned the world to win the 1960 World Series, and in 1961 Roger Maris of the Yankees broke Babe Ruth’s single-season home run record.

On TV, living rooms glowed with The Andy Griffith Show, The Flintstones, My Three Sons, Hazel, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Mister Ed, and The Mike Douglas Show.

At the movies: Spartacus, Exodus, The Alamo, The Apartment, Ocean’s 11, West Side Story, One Hundred and One Dalmatians, and The Parent Trap.

And the soundtrack? A glorious blend of pop, rock, doo-wop, folk, country, and soul: Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Chubby Checker, The Drifters, Sam Cooke, Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, Brian Hyland, Dion, Gary U.S. Bonds, The Miracles, The Shirelles, The Everly Brothers, Bobby Rydell, Roy Orbison, Ben E. King, Del Shannon, Ricky Nelson, The Tokens, Bobby Lewis, and more, the prelude to the sonic revolutions just ahead.

🕰️ Tune in for two years of seismic change: headlines, hit shows, and hit records that set the 60s in motion.

📅 Mark your calendars: Thursday, November 6th, 2025.

🎧 Don’t miss this guided journey through the news, TV, films, sports milestones, and chart-topping records that framed the turn of the decade, connecting the cultural dots between the end of the ’50s and the rise of the ’60s!
