Topic for The Show: The 50th Anniversary of the year 1968.

1968 was a momentous and one of the most turbulent year of the 20th Century, a year that changed the world. Back then, our president was Lyndon B. Johnson and our nation was in the midst of the Vietnam war, including the Tet Offensive and the many protests that took place in the US, against that war. 1968 also marked the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr as well as Robert F. Kennedy prompting the 1968 Presidential Elections which saw Richard Nixon elected.

It was the year of the Apollo 8’s orbit of the moon, the launch of 60 minutes on CBS and movies like 2001: Space Odyssey, Bullitt, Funny Girl, Romeo and Juliet, the Lion in the Winter. Television shows like Laugh In, The Mod Squad, Adam 12, Julia, Hawaii Five-0  also started that year.

The world of music was punctuated by rock and roll music. The Beatles created Apple Records, took a  trip to India, Johnny Cash performed at Folsom Prison, Elvis Presley appeared on a television special of his 68 Comeback Special on NBC. Other artists including Jimi Hendrix, Big Brother and Holding Company, featuring Janis Joplin, the Grass Roots, Cream, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Glen Campbell, Marvin Gaye, Dion with Abraham, Martin and John, the Monkees, Simon and Garfunkel, the Bee Gees, Donovan, musical Hair went on Broadway, Rolling Stones, Otis Redding with (Siitin’ On) The Dock of the Bay, Beach Boys, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, Tommy James and the Shondells, and many others also graced the airways.
